Prompt from Eiiri’s Prompt Foundry, “Pride 2 Disability Boogaloo”.

“Here you are, dear.” Keith said, offering a mug of herbal tea.
“Oh. Thank you.” Vicky said politely.
He gave her a puzzled look, then gently asked “Are you not thirsty anymore?”
“Am…?” Vicky considered this. “Oh. I am.”
She took the tea, noted that it had been carefully cooled to be still tasty but immediately drinkable, and gratefully slurped.
Only once she’d finished the drink, that to-do safely ticked off, did she ruefully say “I asked you for it, didn’t I?”
Keith took the mug back with a smile that didn’t even try to hide the sadness in his eyes. He planted a tender kiss on her forehead and murmured “I love you.”
It was all he could say, really. All either of them could say. “It’s fine” or anything similar would be an agonising lie, after all.
She caught his hand and squeezed it tight. So long as he was here, so long as the conversation was still happening, it was real. It was only once it ended and he had to leave that…
Her gaze flicked to the clock. Large numbers, not only the time but the full date and also what day of the week it was. He’d put one in every room. It was… reassuring. Being able to see how much time she’d lost today.
But also painful.
But less painful than truly being lost.
“I love you.” Keith whispered.
It was all they had.

Prompt was “Memory loss”.
