Prompt from DailyPrompt.com

So cold. All over. Yet throat burns.
Can’t feel the stone chips bite my feet.
Can’t stop.
Don’t know why. Used to. Cold ate that.
Lamp rocks in my hand, light tilts and hops cross the mine walls. Gems glint at me. Sly eyes.
So cold.
Can’t stop. Must run. Must-
Fork.
Which way?
Don’t know.
Gasps burn throat. Chest screams. Can’t think.
Have to pick. How?
As breath slows, I hear steps echo. Not mine.
Have to pick now.
The lamp shrinks. A breeze?
Breeze!
I lick my lips. Turn my head. Left. Right.
There!
Steps close. I cup the lamp and run.
Can’t stop.
I chase the wind.
Please. Lead me out. Take me home.
I’m so cold.
