Prompt from “pridemonthprompts” 2025 list.
“Sir? The Pride March is starting.”
Mayor Thomas did not look up from his work. “Yes. Thank you. I’m aware.”
“They will be arriving at the town hall-”
“In precisely one hour, yes. I read the memo.” Thomas twiddled his tie-pin. A nervous tic. “How was the mood?”
“Quite energetic.”
Thomas sucked in breath. “Ah.”
“Have you finished reviewing their demands?”
“Yes. And… I fear there’s going to be riots.”
The aide looked suitably concerned. Thomas sighed.
“I pride myself on being a reasonable man. Believe me, I’ve tried to find a way to make what they want work, I’ve talked it out with everyone involved, and… I just… why bringing back disco, of all things?? As if last year’s ‘free glitter bombs for all’ wasn’t bad enough! And how am I meant to go about making all the parks ‘twice as fabulous’?? I’m hoping we can calm them by pushing through the free garlic bread ruling. The supermarkets won’t like it, but they’ll cope.”
Thomas rested his head in his hands, glaring down at the flourish-laden, glitter-penned threats littering his desk, and grumbled “I know it’s not politic to say this, but the queer agenda has gone too far!”
Prompt was “Parade or Protest”.
