Microfic Roundup

January 05-12

Trying daily microfiction has been interesting - and fun! A couple of things I’ve noticed:

  • I’ve defaulted to first person in every one of these. I never write in first person. I have no idea why I’ve gone straight to it when writing short form. Pondering whether to embrace it or try and branch out. Microfic is ideal for experimenting after all.
  • Urban fantasy sprung to mind a fair amount. I love worlds like ā€œHome Safety Hotlineā€ paints. I plan to explore this more.
  • I don’t naturally do descriptions. Possibly due to my aphantasia? (Lack of mind’s eye/inability to visualise.) Characters are voices floating in a void to me, so when doing writing ā€œsketchā€ exercises like this what they look like rarely even occurs to me until rereading it way later. I’m going to work on that.
