“I don’t understand it.” Briz shook her head. “She goes out to the meadows and even the forest, and usually takes her kits, but every time she comes back and wants the basket.”

“Is it nerves?” Krix tugged one ear with a helpless frown.

“But she’s so confident. Well, she acts confident around the place.”

My territory is staked. This is a fine place, rich with small critters which my teeth delight in. No scary things to hide from except the big diving birds, which are easy to avoid. I drill my babies in spotting their movement in the sky and crouching low and still.

We are also getting better at coaxing food from the humans. I have learned which are friendly and am practising what they find cute. We are also learning what of the humans’ food to avoid and what makes best treats.

This is a good home.
